# dimension.getType

Returns the type of a dimension.

```js
dimension.getType(dimension)
```

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `dimension` | `string` | The dimension's name or id. |

## Returns

The dimension's type, such as `standard`, `measure`, `time`, `scenario` or `geography`, or `"ERROR: Dimension not found"` when it can't be found.

## Examples

```js
const type = dimension.getType("Year");
```
